If you are buying the home with FHA financing you still must have 3.5% of the purchase price to put down. You can use the $8,000 as an additional down payment or to pay for your closing costs.

The Governor has signed a bill regarding the possibilities of borrowing the money from the state and repaying it with the tax credit but we do not have any specifics or information on what state program will be used to work with the tax credit as down payment.
